An interest in deep listening and conversations on material led to this collaboration between Marc Merza and Ryan Beckemeyer. Working with a call and response of long form improvisation alongside digital video synthesis, the two created an edition that influences our perception of natural form through the interplay of sound and materials.
Signed and numbered edition of 33 + 7 proofs.

In the autumn of 2023, Daniel Browne and Ryan Beckemeyer, lifelong friends now residing in different states, hung out and spontaneously composed an album over four days.

This context makes a lot of sense when listening to Improvisation for Pianet & Synthesizer which reflects the circumstances from which it sprung, oscillating between a warmly nostalgic embrace and the exhilarating rush of the unknown.

Moments of dub, post-punk, jazz, and ethereal soundscapes coalesce into something that eschews definition. Perhaps best described by your most stoned friends sagely whispering things like "aggressive spa" or "progressive frisson” between giggles and snacks.

It feels both lush and open, both meticulous and free.
Whatever it is, it’s a journey.

Opening track Sunglint introduces both itself and the album with a soothing yet eerie twinkle, reminiscent of a lullaby echoing from the depths of a well. This lays the groundwork for a few of the album's recurring themes before ultimately melting into the laconic afternoon dub combo of Herbal Rubber and I Hardly Even Know'er.

As the album progresses, a subtle tension begins to weave its way in, beginning from the disquieting, abandoned funhouse of High Cost, Low Value and into the captivating and slightly paranoid observatory trip that is Deepspacejazz.

It is at this point that Equator steps in, serving as a transition into the latter half of the record, taking you for a walk, and guiding you back home just as Post New Age emerges to tuck you into your haunted bed. The album wisely concludes with Spiritual Guidance a kiss on the forehead, imbued with glitchy optimism, to send you on your way.

If this sounds like a lot it isn't and also totally is. The experience ultimately mirrors a reunion with an old friend – where much has transpired, yet no time has passed at all.

Automapoems are generative works of chance. Vehicles for a moment experienced any which way, again and again, made by choosing a simple path, over and over.

The algo stands as a consort, a carrier of intimate knowledge which we access passively for convenience and expedition.

Automapoems release the facets of ourselves that we hold tight. We give our personal device agency over what it shares. Images are processed through the same chain of digital effects. A decisive starting point sent into the ether. Predictive text is corralled within the parameters of a haiku. The only direction being the last decision that was made.

Chance had been a discussion point for some time. Generative poetry, music, and other variations of going with the flow were of interest. Separately, Mo and Ryan had been using their own generative frameworks for telling jokes and finding melody. Through this collaboration they created what would later be called automapoetry.
